In 2016 I made a couple of visits to the well known, well trodden and often photographed former poultry research facility at Houghton Grange in Cambridgeshire. The place and history has been so well gone over time and again I'll keep it brief - the original manor house, Houghton Grange, was bought and converted into an animal research facility, specifically centred around diseases relating to poultry. The manor house is flanked by two 1960s extensions and there are numerous other buildings in the grounds, most of them samey and fairly dull as it was where the animals would have been housed. One is slightly different however, much bigger and darker and more interesting to shoot as it's where some of the various tests and experiments would have been performed. The site has been empty since the early 1990s and is yet to have anything done to it.
Two relaxed visits were had here, with no issues at all. The manor house was locked up tight on both visits but we knew it was alarmed so didn't see it as too great a loss. I did however really like the well decayed buildings flanking the manor house, they were much more interesting than the rest of the site showcasing some great natural decay.
