This former branch of HSBC is one of two Edwyn Lutyen's designed structures in Manchester (the other being the war memorial in St Peter's Square), and built in a very distinctive 1930s style which resembles a 'mini skyscraper'.

The building was originally the Midland Bank's Northern HQ until it became HSBC during the 1990s. The bank closed in 2008 and the building has since had many of its floors stripped out, leaving an impressive banking hall and extensive underground area which includes a vault.

A fine building, hopefully it'll be brought back to good use in the near future :)
