Thanks to UKMayhem and OT for the heads up on this one.

I was GUTTED when I missed the boat by a day last time so I sure as hell wasn't going to miss out this time. As soon as I got the nod I was up to Portsdown Hill quicker than you could blink.

I've always grown up hearing stories of family members having practically lived down in these shelters during the war so it was a particularly massive itch I scratched by finally being able to see it. This is one of the most well preserved deep shelters i've seen. In a way I want the council to fix this soon but on the other hand it's so impressive it should be turned into some kind of museum or publicly accessible memorial.

Quite a comprehensive and interesting history of the shelters can be found on the Portsdown Tunnels website.

Anyway enough, my words can't do this place justice so i'll let the shots do the talking.
