The Explore

Just a few snaps from a very derped country pub, but it has a long and interesting (although very sparse) history so I thought it was worth a share. I had a bunch of small places to check out in the area on this particular day and this was stop number 4.


The History

The New Inn in Longston near Leek dates back to at least 1817 and apparently by 1846 it was used as a lodge by the United Ancient Order of Druids. The druids still met at the New Inn in 1876, by which time it had 103 members. I'd love to know more about this part of the buildings' history but unfortunately can't unearth any more on the subject. The New Inn has now been closed over a decade and despite the age of the building and its history it doesn't appear to be listed in any way so I'd imagine demolition will happen somewhere down the line.

Behind the bar, nice they left us some drink and some Christmas decorations!

After a quick poke about downstairs and with the cellar flooded, I made my way upstairs using a bridge someone had built over the broken staircase.

Coming back down - I had what can only be described as a 'brown underwear moment' negotiating the missing section of staircase and very nearly plunged six feet down into the flooded cellar. So instead of taking any more bar shots, I headed outside and contemplated life for 20 minutes before leaving. If anyone else visits, be aware!

Yes there has been some issue with attachments since software upgrade, not had chance to check the time stamps for the 2 I’m aware of the in case just a one off... it’ll be looked into in due course

Hi,i was the one responsible for the xmas decorations,john and i left on the 20th of december 2007,NOT by choice,marstons sold the pub to enterprise inns in may of that year,promises of spending money on the place and doing it up,never happened ,they chose instead to sell it to a developer,hence why its now like it is,the locals have kept their word up to now in saying that there would not be any houses on the site,shame it could not have gained its graded listing,it was a beautiful place,i have pictures,and the locals ,and the ones that travelled to us,who used the pub ,were lovely and appreciated it for the pub it was.Its sad for me to see it now,loved it there,but as they say money talked in this case.Hope this little bit of info helps, the 2 pint glasses were ours!! One with bitter and the other with guinness,the jamesons and brandy were a tot for our last 2 customers,clive & josie if i remember right.

wow!! i used to go in now and then around 2005 normally b4 heading down to the Hollybush or into Leek. Such a shame only went passed on Saturday as i was off down to deep hayes.
