well this place is certainly popular at the moment & i'm pretty sure we just missed somebody else there today as there were fresh footprints at the entry point we used!

a copy & paste on some history of the site

Appendix 9: THE LOCATION OF BRICKWORKS IN
SURREY
NUTBOURNE BRICKWORKS, HAMBLEDON (REDLAND BRICKS LTD)
A9.1 Nutbourne Brickworks lie to the south of Vann Lane in a rural area of mixed
woodland and agriculture, approximately half a mile south east of Hambledon
Village. Access to the site is from Vann Lane via a no through road known as
Roundals Lane. The site is within the Metropolitan Green Belt, Surrey Hills Area of
Outstanding Natural Beauty, Area of Great Landscape Value and an Area for
Landscape Improvement.
A9.2 Clay extraction and brick manufacture began at Nutbourne before the Second World
War. Permission for clay extraction from most of the 51ha was granted in 1952. A
northward extension of 6ha was approved in 1968 and permission for a second
northward extension of 6.3ha was granted in October 1981.
A9.3 The existing brickworks lie to the east of Roundals Lane, at the southern end of the
clay pit. Production is temporarily suspended due to the present decline in building
activity. Planning permission was granted in 1984 for the construction of a new
brickworks to be sited to the south east of the existing works. This permission lapsed
and was renewed on 13 March 1990 but this has yet to be implemented because of the
downturn in the market for construction materials. The proposed output of the
prepared works was estimated to be 17m bricks pa.
A9.4 The existing works, housed in 1930s buildings, consist of two separate units which
are now outdated, inefficient and provide poor working conditions. When the new
works are constructed and become operational, production at the existing works will
cease and the buildings will be demolished

hopefully my pics will show something new although a quick look through them earlier showed them as a bit "samey" to earlier visits :banghead

after this we took a quick run down to the Cocking lime works so had a busy day :)

tis was first time out with a DSLR too so hopefully te pics wont be too bad. photobucket is a bit hard on them during resizing :wanker
