This was a nice explore from my summer trip to Italy with Andy W. We originally set out just to see the chapel as we hadn't realised there was an abandoned hospital behind it as well (bonus!). I managed to find a little bit of history on the place. The chapel and surrounding buildings were built in the 17th century (1661-1670) and restored in the 19th century. For much of its life span it belonged to the Camaldolese order of monks who lived as hermits in solitude and prayer. In 1918 it was converted by the Italian Red Cross into a sanatorium for war veterans and then for the treatment of female tuberculosis. Many of the buildings where the monks lived have since been demolished and others were sealed. The chapel retains some impressive stuccos but has fallen into disrepair. The hospital behind it was a much later addition built in the 1960s and subsequently closed its doors in 2013.

Very very nice. I wonder if the hospital & chapel were linked at some point after 1960? Or did the chapel stop being used by then.?

Anyway cracking stuff, there is some really intricate stucco there, the architect & plaster were very talented. There is just so much of it. And that second to last shot what an eye popper, just wow :thumb

Unreal that mate. The first report I’ve seen in ages that made me want to jump up and blow the dust off my camera ha.
