Just outside Lodz lies an abandoned prison. Originally this building was a monastery, but when the Soviets moved into Poland the Monks were replaced with political prisoners (why was almost everyone in the soviet prison system 'political'?).
It was redesigned to hold 600 inmates although at any one time you would have found at least double that residing behind its walls.
When the Iron Curtain fell the prison kept on being a prison right up until 2006 when someone somewhere cried “human rights†and the inmates had to be moved to more spacious surroundings.
Main Gates
Apparently reads "Aim here and discharge weapon"
Thanks for looking more on my site should you be interested.
