Report - Providence tower, Canary Wharf, London - January 2015

Intro

Another tower, saw this on the DLR a little while ago and didn't think anymore of it, skip forward a few days and Boomstick is inviting me for a climb.
Climbing stuff like this has slowly become something I enjoy far more than I should and as soon as I'm down I want to be up again. Anyway, was really nice being on top of something again, enjoy.


What is providence?

Providence tower is a 44 storey mixed use tower that sits near canary wharf, the tower, alongside a smaller development, will provide:​

• 1,050 residential units
• 50,000 sq m of offices and retail
• Luxury 180 room Radisson Edwardian Hotel
• Walking distance to Canary Wharf
• Two health spas, gymnasium and swimming pool
• Extensive landscaped water gardens

History

The site before providence was nothing of interest and there isn't any real history to this at all, but during construction the reached headlines for all the wrong reasons. A tower crane suffered severe damage as it's vertical jib had snapped and caused one casualty, no death were reported.

A crane snapped in half near the Providence Tower development in Docklands this afternoon leaving one workman with serious head injuries.

Fire crews attended the incident this afternoon when the crane partially fell, with paramedics retrieving the trapped man and sending him ‘as a priority’ to the Royal London Hospital.

A spokeswoman for London Ambulance Service said it sent a duty officer, one ambulance and its hazardous area response team to Fairmont Avenue, where the 43-storey tower is being built.

It has since sent a unit back to the scene on standby in case of any further injuries.

The visit

So we didn't know it had been done before until the night before when I noticed SK's report and then even recently as more photos surfaced. Me, Boomstick84 and Oakley headed out for a great night and after a bit of time wasting, our final attempt proved successful and we then found ourselves ascending to the 40th floor.
The tower still isn't constitutionally complete, standing at it's 40th floor (400 feet), but that doesn't affect the views at all, peninsula trampoline, canary wharf, Baltimore, all of London.
A small fox gave us a bit of a shock at the ground floor, seemed to be just wandering around, probably looking for the staircase
