Pyestock National Gas Turbine Establishment, part of the Royal Aircraft Establishment was the site of the design and development of gas turbine and jet engines. Construction on Pyestock started in 1949, with further construction in the 60’s. The site was said to be the largest of its kind in the world, with V Bomber, Harrier and Tornado engines tested here, followed by the famous Concorde engines and every gas turbine installed in Royal Navy ships were checked here. It is known that captured Soviet engines were examined here.

The site at the time of our explore was quite empty apart from a few areas which played host to security. Nevertheless we got a good explore out of this! Would love to revisit this site to see what has become of the legendary Pyestock NGTE! Though rumour has it, it was penned for demolition for housing... I'm not sure on the latest news for this.

Enjoy the shots, these were taken on my trusty Nikon D3000, RIP fella.

One of the testing chambers, you can really get a sense of the size of the engines tested here:

It's long gone sadly, demolished during 2013. The only parts left are the shell of the Anechoic Chamber building and the water treatment plant.
