Redruth Brewery was a bit of a pleasant surprise on our Cornish trip. We had visions of it being really trashed but a bit of poking upstairs revealed some smaller rooms with some hidden brewing gems. I found a bottle opener in the shape of a gun :p It reminded me of a cross between Courage Brewery and Tolly Cobbold. Perhaps they all came from the same mould?

We managed to open one of the big gold cans of malt with a nail and when it oozed out, it smelled of Malteasers. Mmmmm :)

Brewing started in 1792, it was acquired by Devenish in 1934. It was purchased by a management buy out in 1991, contract brewing for other breweries, particularly focusing on the supermarket branded beer. It restarted brewing it's own brand beer in 1998. It suspended brewing it's own brands during early 2002 but restarted again later that year. The brewery went into liquidation at the beginning of 2004 and closed during March of that year.
