  • Sherwood Rise Tunnel is a 665-yard tunnel and one of a system of 4 major train tunnels in Nottingham used to overcome steep gradients. Just south of this tunnel was a large cutting in which stood Carrington station, mansfield road tunnel and sherwood rise tunnel entrances. the station was closed in 1968 and the deep cutting was later filled in. the uppermost part of the north SR tunnel entrance can still be seen in the partly filled cutting off Haydn Road in Basford.
