Just a little one this - but thought I'd put it up in case anyone local needs a starter-derp.

Belonging to BAE Systems, and dating back to WW2 the Silverfish Pumping Station was used to raise water from a series of boreholes sunk beside the King's Sedgemoore Drain, Somerset. This water supply, raised by a bank of Harland pumps supplied the Bridgwater Royal Ordinance Factory (ROF)and supplied its cooling and firefighting reservoirs.

The building itself is showing its age - the black steel plates in the top picture were an attempt to stop the building separating in two - but you can see the severe cracking running floor to roof.

Surveyors marks on the back of the building show about 3 inches of movement in the last 30 years.

Seen from the inside the problem is clear to see:

The pumphouse contains 3 in-situ Harland pumps, plus ancillary equipment, not surprisingly the 'Somerset Metal Fairy Corporation' have recycled most of the cable on site.

Enough waffle - some internals:

Well I've already given the game away on that one, as the access is shown in the report, I'm just waiting for one of the b×stard mods to tell me off :)

just like a modern version of that pump house that popped up at Hams Hall about a year ago, has anyone swam into the depths of that yet?

Yeah but the FB squad tend to overlook details like that, unless it"d been Photomatix"d

If it"d been in Wakey, the steel wall plates would have been the first things to go, to make way for a Transit sized hole in the wall ;)

TBF it looks more like a working Canal & River Trust pumphouse, we"re always short of cables it seems :)
