The Fish Market Annex lies at the South West corner of Smithfield and was completed in 1888. Designed by the City's architect, Horace Jones, it was completed one year after his death. It appears to have fallen into disuse during the late '70's. There were recently plans to redeveloped the site as offices by retaining the facade and building a sort of glass structure where the roof is as well as demolishing the adjacent General Market. After a vigorous campaign by National Heritage to save the buildings the Government called in a Public Enquiry. The developers, Thornfields, lost their case to redevelop the site and have since gone bankrupt.

I really like this building with it's faded Victorian grandeur and neat geometric design, although it's future now seems more uncertain than ever.
