For coos, or for royalty? As a rule, agricultural buildings don't normally register on my richter scale of urbex excitement, but I just had to post this for its sheer randomness! I love the ornate and slightly preposterous architecture, but the location is absolutely stunning too - remote, windswept and serenely beautiful.

It was built as a farm and model dairy between 1911 and 1914. The main milking parlour building with the tower stands at the front, with a courtyard (playing host to the most impressive, no, hang on, the only, Italianate drinking trough I've ever seen) to the rear. The smaller buildings around the courtyard include stables, barn, tackroom etc. The dairy closed in 1984, and various plans have been approved for holiday lets and most recently a film studio. None of these developments have ever materialised and the buildings are now in a critical state of disrepair. There's more information on the Scottish Buildings at Risk register.

It's not a huge site, and the main tower building is shut up tight, but the rest of it provided an hour or so of photographic shenanigans.

On with the visuals:

6. Inside the milking parlour. Great tiles. Couldn't get in the tower, darn it!

7. In the stables. Excuse the state of the picture - no tripod and didn't want to disturb the owls with a flash!

11. The view's not bad either... (gate arch with the Lake District in the distance)

13. My favourite photo from the day. Yes, they were tasty!

Well, there we go. A wee bit of randomness to brighten up your day! Maybe rurex rather than urbex, but architectural quirkiness by the bucketload nevertheless.

Moo.
