A GROUND-breaking ceremony has marked the start of construction work at The Grange School in Runcorn.

Pupils, school staff, Halton Borough Council staff and councillors attended the event.

The new school will combine the existing infant, junior and senior schools under one roof.

The rebuild will cost an estimated £35.3m and will be funded by public finance initiative credits – a kind of private sector loan that is repaid with public cash.

The redevelopment is part of the multi-million pound Building Schools for the Future (BSF) project in Halton.

Construction work will begin at Wade Deacon, Widnes, in September.

A public-private group, Halton Transformational Partnership, has been formed to develop the BSF projects.

The group includes Galliford Try, Vinci and Hochtief PPP Solutions, Halton Council and the two schools.

David Stanley, The Grange School executive headteacher, said: “We are delighted that work is beginning on our fantastic new building which has been carefully designed to house our recently-formed all through school.

“It will have separate, dedicated areas for primary and secondary pupils with specialist facilities available to all ages.â€￾

Cllr John Swain (children and young people) said: “It is a great day for the school and the community that work has started on the site.â€￾

"excuse me love we have come to fix a crane...do you know if theres any cranes around here"
