locally known as denbigh mental , it served as a large employer for the local community since 1844 until its demise in 2002 , the hospital was built to house welsh mental patients with welsh speaking nurses , so few of the welsh lower classes spoke english that it was deemed cruel to send them to english asylums who were equally ignorant of the welsh language , an auntie of mine who worked at the hospital in the 1960s told me how she and many others shouted abuse and heckled ACKER BILK when he performed at the hospital theatre and treated staff n patients as country yokel bumpkins and performed half heartedly as he did,nt like the venue his agent had booked him ! right thats the history bit over !
THE VISIT- i visited with fellow member cazel#HT early in the morning to avoid unwanted attention ! we was on the premises for apox 3 hours and felt that we had only scratched the surface , we was taken back by the level of decay the hospital has fallen into , we kept one eye on what was above us at all times , and one on what we was walking on ! if you do visit folks , be bloody careful ! check out my pics !!!!
while leaving to visit another potential derp , ELWYN the self appointed security guard caught us in the open , he could see we were festooned in camera equipment and not a bunch of scallies on a vandalism spree , we let him say his piece about trespassing ,dangers of collapsing buildings , asbestos and setting his german sheppard on us , which did not perturb us one bit ...lol ,we did nothing to antagonise the situation and made him feel like he had done a good job , we were then escorted out with him driving his jeep slowly behind us as we chatted away merrily about our next visit to denbigh mental .....lol

Can't believe how quick this has down hill so fast since it shut. Suppose once the elements find a way in it doesn't take long..

:thumbNicely shot report mate .

Let down by the use of the word "Nutters" and Denbigh Mental ...that's not its name and needs altering correctly , show a bit of respect eh

I'd increase the picture spacing a bit to better isolate them for viewing, looks better that way ;)

We done for not being intimidated by Emlynn, others have not faired so well

we went in down some stairs outside behind the main building and came out somewhere near the morgue but there are lots of turns and junctions down there so i think you could end up anywhere on the site.the only thing i can remember about our entrance was it looked like a bush in the corner of the courtyard at the back of the main building with a narrow set of steps down.we could here people above and a quick knock on the roof sent them running.

I went in early June this year and they were dry.the only flooding we found was under the nurses quarters

It may be what the locals call it, but it's not really fitting with every other site thread that exists on the internet is it..

Anyone else agree it's probably best to change it ?

Nice report mate.Did you find your way into the tunnels underneath?

You mean asbestos central?

They go around the coal silos and around the ward section there and bring you back up around the generator room from what i've seen.

Id tend to agree with @Ojay on the name

It was probably known as that back in the day when people felt that mocking mental health issues was OK, times have changed now thankfully

Amazing pictures, this is definitely on our "must see list" security looks tight though.
Can't beat b&w pics.
this place is well worth a visit , we only got seen cos we was out in the open near a roadway where he could find us , so i would,nt worry too much about security
