I've been wanting to get back down these tunnels for ages, as last time my camera didn't like the dark and no pics came out. Last night I got my wish, cheers to STeALtH for showing me around and nice to see you again Lynton. These tunnels were used as air-raid shelters in both WW1 and extended in WW2 and could accommodate up to 15,000 people. Also used as a scenic railway. It is awesome down there, and I have utter respect for the guys who had to dig out these tunnels with pickaxes, it was a nice chilled out explore and saw alot more than I did last time, enough said, heres the pics:
The rusty old tunnel sign.
One of the chalk wells, these go up about 70ft, fantastic.
Inspection pit.
Old bumper car, still got No.2 on the side.
The South Portal entrance.
Rusty old remains of a bicycle.
Remains of a old toilet.
The steps leading up to The Arklow Square entrance.
Remains of a timber support holding the chalk up.
A collapsed part of the tunnel.
Part of a old biscuit tin.
A old water tank.
This leads up to the St.Lukes Square entrance, very blurry due to the amount of dust particles in here.
Enjoy the pics, it was great seeing this place again, didn't get any pics of the main tunnel which is huge, my camera not the best for long exposures. What a quality way to spend a sunday night, with a cold beer afterwards, cheers guys.
