Tilbury 'A' Power Station

Following construction which began in 1951, Tilbury 'A' station was commissioned in 1956 by the CEGB. It was mothballed in 1981 and eventually part demolished in 1999, mostly everything including the turbine hall was demolished. the waste water and a small part of the station still remains due to being a listed building
It's been a while since I've properly been out and about, not since Silly Oak was doing the rounds. I didn't really know an awful lot about this place but I was told in good faith it was worth the trip for the control room, canteen, labs, offices etc that remained. So it didn't take much persuasion and not knowing what to expect is all part of the fun. Oh, and that it's been derelict longer than I've been alive, that was a first.
The whole place was surprisingly intact for its age and there was a staggering amount of paperwork and documents left behind. Accident reports, instruction manuals, blueprints, rooms full of the stuff. Lots of natural decay and some lovely signage made this an epic first explore of the year for me.
Speed's take on the place is far more extensive than mine, but hopefully I've captured a few bits from a different perspective.
