Visited with Catullus and a non-member, and we kept it festive with some lovely Santa hats. It was an easy, relaxed explore. I wish I’d visited here years ago before it was stripped (those copper vats I saw on old reports looked lovely!).
History from: Tolly Cobbold Feedback
The Cobbold family set up the Cliffe brewery on this site in 1746. The current building dates from 1894 when the brewery was rebuilt.
In 1957 Cobbold merged with Tollmache breweries to become Tolly Cobbold.
The Cliffe Brewery closed in 1989 but was then saved by a management buyout. However, production was moved to the back buildings, and from 1992 tours of this main building commenced.
In 2002, Ridley’s acquired the company and the Cliffe brewery closed.
