University Of Manchester, North Campus (Tunnels, Rooftop, And Buildings) – Aug/Sept/Oct/Nov 2011

PIC HEAVY!

Millhouse / Bigjobs / Horus / Squirrell911 / Sho / Fishbrain / Tweek

This report has been compiled from a number of visits, mainly from myself and Bigjobs. It’s been a bit of a project for us over the last few months. The report includes the Maths and Social Sciences rooftop, Morton Laboratories, Renold Building, Barnes Wallis Building, Pariser building, Faraday Building and Tower, and the North Campus maintenance tunnels. We have visited multiple times, focusing mainly on the tunnels to attempt to gain access to the various buildings on site. We found some to be alarmed, some also with cameras, some very active with people in.

On one of our earlier ventures into the tunnels, we got into the Morton Laboratories, creeping through the live building we made our way from the workshops through into the back end of the building. It seems they are constructing some kind of large scale experimentation rig. We had a look to see if we could get into any of the labs, but unfortunately they are all protected by pass-code locks.

On a later visit with Horus and Squirrell911 we decided to get as deep into the system as we could, so we headed for the furthest point – the Sackville Street building. We successfully gained access, after stooping through steamy chambers and hot, sweaty tunnels, but after a few minutes in Sackvile (and despite trying our hardest to look out for alarms) we set off a PIR... We bailed back through the tunnels, covering our tracks as we went. (See the video below – esp. the end haha)

Part 2

Not satisfied, we went back for more. On another visit we checked out more buildings to find them alarmed. We proceeded towards Pariser, and were about to the enter building when we heard two people talking on the other side of the door – and I mean literally on the other side, you could hear every word they were saying. We promptly and quietly retreated towards our point of entry, avoiding puddles to ensure we left no footprints, and as we stopped to listen for activity we clearly heard them walking towards us so it was time to leave. I presume the people were maintenance, as Pariser seems to be the base of tunnel maintenance activity. Most times we passed it, there was a radio on from the inside of the building – presuming this meant people we left Pariser until a later visit and just got some balls and went for it haha :D

There was also another occasion where myself and Bigjobs were about to enter the main loop of the tunnels, and after stopping for a minute to listen for activity someone came running full pelt towards us from down the tunnel to the right so we immediately turned and sprinted out of there. Workers? Explorers?

One from Barnes Wallis Building. We were about to walk up the stairs when someone started walking down them – “bail!â€￾ I checked this place out with Tweek / Fishbrain / Sho aswell, to find that again there was definite activity around the main lobby area.

And some from a more successful attempt at the Renold Building.
