Visited this place with the girlfriend and two none member on a quite miserable day, although it did brighten up a little later. A former gasification site that used coal to turn into gas. It once provided gas for twenty per cent of Scotland the site was opened by the queen in 1961 and was owned by british gas, the site has changed hands several times and millions of pounds have been pumped into it.and in 1992 the then owners built a 120MW combined cycle gas turbine. Sadly in Scotland most of the coal pits have been shut so the process was no longer viable. It carried on being a gas power station pumping it straight from the sea. The site shut down in 2011..Parts of the site had been demolished, but lots to see here.lots of pipes and dials. They have built a newer smaller station next to it. I was told it is fed by chicken poo.

Looking over the main site.

Sadly the turbine is well encased, but managed to get a few shots through gaps.

Underneath is the large air intake. This bit is large and pitch black.

Heading over to the main administration block and canteen and locker room. The canteen area had suffered a fire.

Another smaller workshop. This had over head rails which I guess was used for manoeuvring large machinery parts.

Lots of dials and pipes down below to control pressure and so on.

A few months later we visited again and this time most of the site had gone. But we went for the labs that had been sealed when we first went. These labs had a real retro feel to them. These were standard land like most power station labs that dealt with burnt coal that produced the steam for the turbines. So a basic water treatment labs, and as Westfield dealt in a coal slurry to produce gas this would be similar.

A few pics from the aftermath of demo on the main plant.

The turbine had been ripped out and dumped on the ground. But impressive to see.

One of those places I should have just hired a 7.5ton box van and spent a week ferrying stuff back home. Everything left behind, not even a hint of anyone giving a damn and a all eventually driven into the rubble! What a waste!
I know it seems to have been a forgotten about place. The old metal thieves stripped the place in the end and was working 24/7 at one point on it. Had a few old gauges from it
