In 1904, first plans were made for exploitation for the drilling of a double-shaft system.
Problems in the acquisition of land for the expansion of daily systems and settlements initially delayed the actual start of sinking work until 1914. By the then broke out of World War I , further work was suspended for the time being.at last in 1927 the building of the shaft was possible. This shaft reached the coal mountain in 1929. The second shaft was completed in 1934.
Towards the end of the second world war , the mine suffered damage by artillery fire of the advancing Allied troops. The operation had to be suspended in 1945.
After successful reconstruction a new company was erected which continued the long-range development of the mine. Full automation led to an increase in the capacity to nearly 3 million tonnes per year. From 1981 to 1986.
In 2005, the closure of the mine for mid-2008 was announced by the Government because of not non-controversial removal of carbon stocks in the neighbourhood.
The annual production of the mine was approximately 2,5 million tons coal per year. About 3,000 were employed by this mine. In 2008 the mine was closed.
