Another bit from our trip west from last summer. We are preparing for another trip, so I thought I might as well squeeze the last drop from the previous trip before I go. This coal mine is one of the last places we visited in Germany towards the end of our trip. Its history dates back to the 19th century, when first shafts were sunk. The mine operated for quite some time and was finally closed in the 1990s just like many coal mines in the Ruhr area. Now a headframe along with two winding houses remain, out of which only one is actually abandoned. The other one has been repurposed.
The explore was as mundane as they get. It was a weekend and the usually busy area was completely dead save for few people here and there who didn't give a rats fuck about us, so we got in without any trouble. The insides were in a good shape with mostly natural decay and a bit of green moss and/or mold. Two rooms, one with the winding machine and another one with a convertor, plus an uninteresting basement. I would highly recommend a visit if you are in the area - it's a quick one but it has some industrial goodness inside.
