This is a follow on from a report i did earlier in the year (2010) that is of the ore handling plant at the old Cleveland works of British Steel South bank area. This report starts at the riverside or what is called South Bank Wharf the first pic is from the early 1960s when the wharf was a very busy place.

Stood in a similar place to the above now the place is deserted and little used.

The wharf itself is in a poor condition as this pic shows i have walked along it before but on this occasion decided against it especially as the river police were on the lookout.

Looking south to the South Bank Coke ovens with another batch of coke being quenched. Really the coke ovens are all of whats left on the site now by 1993 the last of the Cleveland furnaces were blown out and the whole site is just a wasteland or used for tipping of various materials etc.

The old Pig Casting machine all part of the Cleveland iron site not much left at all this lone substation and control room and stocking shed in the background.

These are the same buildings as in the old pic and as near as i could get due to heavy tipping over the years. The buildings were garages for servicing the lorries and plant etc as far as i can gather. The tip in the background has grown over the years.

Final pic looking towards Teesport. Its sad to see the area as another industrial waste land at one time the whole place was a hive of activity employing thousands of people now just a distant memory. Thanks for looking.
