The mine was established in the first decade of the 20th century. After World War I, it was taken over by Poland. The crisis of the 1930s stopped the expansion of the plant. During World War II, mine were taken over by the Germans. Auschwitz prisoners were forced to work here. After the war, the demand for coal increased and the mine began to develop again. After over 100 years of operation, the mine was closed down.
