When I visited there deffo was some live parts but there was equally derelict parts, most notable been the living quarters and recreational rooms, I also had a mooch around the definitely working church.

This is all the history I could find about the building itself, quoting from the groups website :- " The 160-year-old convent was the first building in the old county of Cumberland built for a religious community following the dissolution at the reformation and retains much of its historic character. "

The group Cor et Lumen Christi Community (that resides in part of the 160year old building) seems to have a strange history, it was founded in 1990 after one man left his job and galavanted off to paris to " find his way to god "

To summarise - Convent gets built, Convent becomes derelict, Cor et Lumen Christi Community moves and work commences to restore the building.

enjoy the pics
