They were built into some of the old Napoleanic dry ditches of the Cumberland lines near Fort Amherst.The Spur Battery reservoir is all in an original ditch that has been lined to hold the water.The Couvre port reservoirs has a cross wall and a retaining wall added.The reservoirs were emptied and closed in the 1980's and have remained empty ever since.

Just behind the Couvre Port reservoir is the sally port itself, which is a nice little set of sadly vandalised rooms. However, stuck in the middle of it is this:

It is about 1.8m tall and does not seem to have any evidence of a doorway in it.

Does anyone have any information on what it might be?

Just along from it is the nicest spigot mortar emplacement that I have ever seen:
