Crab quest Battery
This battery in Falmouth was made in the 1540s and used until the 1950s. It originally had Tudor defences outside of it too and there’s a Tudor blockhouse not too far from it. It’s been upgraded since then though and has had newer features like a guardhouse, magazines and what I believe was a small anti aircraft battery in the overgrowth. However while exploring, I found out the guard house was backfilled on the inside and the “anti aircraft” position was on the land above. Deciding I’d seen enough backfill this year I made my way around the concrete gun positions that appear to be from the World Wars but was a bit cautious as it was surrounded by tents. As for the magazines,
There was a small, sealed shell store in the overgrowth and what I guess was another one nearby. There was also an information sign i this one stained in bird turds. And then I found some stairs going down across from here that led into the Cartridge Store, lit by one lighting passage with two chambers and some nice vintage sign above it inside. Apart from that, this was a very small location but quite fun to explore. Thank you for reading this :)

Great report, like the original racking in the magazines still in situ (I suppose protected by the gate). Looks like they are squatters maybe :thumb

Interesting to see the cartridge store open, sure it was shut up last time I was there. Sadly the area does attract squatters / vagrants etc, I've dodged a few bits of left over paraphernalia there.

A bit further up from there is the remains of a trench system used to train troops barracked at the Castle before / during WW2.

Thanks you:thumbBut yeah, the racking surprised me a bit too; I don’t usually see them in mags .They’re probably squatters to be honest

It looked like the cartridge store wasn’t meant to be open so I’m guessing that someone thought it was some sort of tunnel system and broke in even though it’s not that big. Just a guess though. I might have to check out that ditch next time I’m nearby though.
