Decided to bump this up the list when we found out the bulldozers were moving in, seems we did it just at the right time too!
Explored with the ever lovely Mr Rincewind and Mr Acid Reflux, was a rather nice trip, despite leaving with a soggy phone!
Doncaster High School for Girls was built in 1910 in an Edwardian Baroque style utilising red brick and white faience dressings, designed by J.M. Bottomley & G.T. Wellburn. In 1953 the school as extended to add a second floor, relocating the hall to the new floor in the process. The school then merged with Doncaster Grammar School in 1971 and was renamed Hall Cross Comprehensive, this school has now relocated to new premises.
The former Doncaster High School for Girls is earmarked as a four star boutique hotel as part of the £300 million Civic and Cultural Quarter - The Star.
Sorry if this seems a little picture heavy, its half because I know this site probably won't be standing in a fortnight and half because I got a little excited and originally took 230ish photos!!!
This photo isn't mine its from The Star but it shows the lovely frontage
And the rest are mine
As usual I am still getting used to any mode other than 'point and click with flash' but these are me trying, hope they're ok!
A view from the window
and some even have glass left in...
But sadly the skylights do not, however 'Beam me up Scotty!'
Some of the boards have the last lessons on
-Invade here
Wish getting a good grade was this easy now!
Some of the rooms have old desks in and some are cleared...
When will they learn not to gloss over gloss?
There are some interesting things left... I didn't realise till Rincewind pointed it out that this is in fact half a piano!
The hall was hard to light as one window is like blindingly bright and the rest are sealed up but here is my valiant attempt!
The world is a stage...
And I must have took 30 photos trying to light this nicely but hey ho, here are two, one before dusk and one after
All in all a lovely mooch!
Much Love
