Doncaster High School for Girls was built in 1910 in an Edwardian Baroque style utilising red brick and white faience dressings, designed by J.M. Bottomley & G.T. Wellburn. In 1953 the school as extended to add a second floor, relocating the hall to the new floor in the process. The school then merged with Doncaster Grammar School in 1971 and was renamed Hall Cross Comprehensive, this school has now relocated to new premises.
The site is now in the middle of redevelopment (being bulldozed), the central frontage is meant to be being saved but given the state the building is in I would not be surprised if it all gets flattened.
Visited with Jane Eyre and Acid Reflux
External shot, as you can see demolition has started!
While finding our way in to the main part of the school we ran in to this beast
Up the stairs we go
Main hall (sorry about the lens flare)
One of the windows in the Main Hall
One of the classrooms, paint must have been a bit garish in its day!
Lots of the classrooms still have work written on the board, first time I've seen a blackboard in a few years
Random bed
Loads of books laying around in the various store rooms
Corridor
Thank you for looking.
