Your workshop looks like something from the industrial revolution, love all the little draws no doubt filled with bolts and bits for every occassion.

hehe, give me a few months and I'll have some 1930's-50's electric laths fitted + hooked up. Just need to sort some cash to get them transported to me :banghead

is there any markings on the bottom of the can?? a price or a can makers name

it looks a very identical design to the carrless cappel and leonard cans from circa 1899/1900 era, they were used as early petrol cans before the square 2 gallon can.

sorry but im a bit of a canorak and have quite a large collection lol

No, only the brass plate. These sem to have been the standard style of can for mine lamp oils. We have seen a few since I found this one.
