Brief History

A large decommissioned coal fired power station in the North of England which was capable of co-firing biomass, The station had a generating capacity of 1,960 megawatts, enough electricity to power 2 million homes.
It began generating power back in 1967 making use of nearby coal reserves, it eventually closed it doors in 2016 and as of 2020 it is undergoing demolition with the eight cooling towers scheduled for explosive demolition in late 2021. The station also featured as a filming location for the fast and furious films 'Hobbs & Shaw'.

The Explore

We have explored a few power stations in the past and had pretty good luck with them after driving up and scoping the area out we were feeling confident. The site was larger than i thought it would be and althought a lot if it has been demolished there was still more than enough to see for a days explore.
After finding an access point into the site we began to check out the cooling towers, it seems the first thing they do at every power station close is remove access up into them which is a shame.
we began to move carefully around the site and noticed multiple security cars, a dog van and a lot of cameras and sensors, we thought the best thing to do would be to get in the the main building as soon as possible.

We decided against eggborough cause it looked as if they were prepping the cooling towers. This was back in May. Didn’t fancy going with those sorts of works going on. Something inside regrets it. But I’m glad I saw fiddlers. Eggy control room though. God it’s lovely.
