ICI Plant Protection Division (Revisit 2022)
History
Imperial Chemical Industries (ICI) was a British chemical company. It was, for much of its history, the largest manufacturer in Britain. It was formed by the merger of four leading British chemical companies in 1926.
Its headquarters were at Millbank in London.
ICI was a constituent of the FT 30 and later the FTSE 100 indices.
The Revenue Of ICI was £4.85 Billion in 2006.
ICI made general chemicals, plastics, paints, pharmaceuticals and speciality products, including food ingredients, speciality polymers, electronic materials, fragrances and flavourings. In 2008, it was acquired by AkzoNobel, which immediately sold parts of ICI to Henkel, and integrated ICI's remaining operations within its existing organisation.
ICI also owned the Sunbeam motorcycle business, which had come with Nobel Industries, and continued to build motorcycles until 1937.
During the Second World War, ICI was involved with the United Kingdom's nuclear weapons programme codenamed Tube Alloys.
ICI operated a number of chemical sites around the world.

Living only 5 minutes from ICI, I come here often to see the change and decay inside and outside the building, ICI has changed rapidly, being destroyed by vandals and vastly decaying! Some beautiful graffiti from years ago has now been covered with awful graffiti or ripped down from the walls.
The outer building which looked to be some living quarters, I remember dvd's, tv's, clothes, beds and bed frames being inside, the building now has no roof and has been completely destroyed by a fire, as you can see from some photos in this post.
The decay, flowers, leaves and overgrowth inside is beautiful.
ICI is expected to be demolished this year with flats being built to replace the building.
I do love exploring ICI everytime I go back, seeing the different graffiti and decay over the years but it's definitely past its time to be demolished!
