I recently posted a message on here searching for a new partner or group to go exploring with. Well I had a good response to my plea and low and behold I actually met up with someone local to me.
I `thebreeze` entered the pub carpark looking for `thedoctor46`
It was all new to us both but after a chat and a swift half to calm the nerves we ventured to our first location. When we arrived we were greeted by a lovely AA van and a stranded motorist so we decided to try our second option, the old Kidderminster telephone exchange.
On arrival all was quiet on the main road so we seized the opportunity and eased ourselves over a small fence and the rest was history.
Its been stripped of any real interesting bits but there are still a few things left like service cards from 1960 and a fan room. Talking of history here is a bit about our location and the pics will
follow.
Basically I cant find any real history on this place but what I can gather is that it was first a post office in around 1840 then became a BT Telephone exchange at a later date. My mom informs me that she worked there for two weeks when she was 16 and hated every minute of it!
Rowland Hill was born on this site also and here is a bit about him...
Sir Rowland Hill KCB, FRS (3 December 1795 - 27 August 1879) was an English teacher, inventor and social reformer. He campaigned for a comprehensive reform of the postal system, based on the concept of penny postage and his solution of prepayment, facilitating the safe, speedy and cheap transfer of letters. Hill later served as a government postal official, and he is usually credited with originating the basic concepts of the modern postal service, including the invention of the postage stamp.

I hope you enjoy our first explore as much as we did and its not binned!
