Brief History
The River Bollin in Macclesfield flows under the railway line in a couple of culverts, the largest a brick and stone arch around 270m long.
There's a few small tunnels that used to connect in likely from disused mills, sadly these are mostly blocked off.
At one point in time it was possible to climb into a hatch along the tunnel and gain access into a corridor that led to the train station, access has since been blocked for safety reasons
The Explore
This is a place that has been long overdue for me to explore as i drive past it daily and i live local, Driving home one evening after exploring a Derbyshire Lead mine we decided to do it as we were kitted up already.
Local scrotes proved quite useful as a stolen Tesco shopping trolley that was dumped there turned out to be a perfect ladder but we couldn't have timed it any worse as we got to the bottom and just entered the entrance a bright torch lit us up and an angry voice shouted oi.
We decided to press on as we were already there, the culvert goes on quite a while with various adits going off into a nice size crawl both sides. I did hear rumors of grave stones that had washed down there somehow apparently all piled up in one of the adits?as these didn't look the nicest places to crawl we didn't bother to find out.
After exploring the tunnel for an hour or so we headed back to see the men who shouted us were still there and were infact undercover officers that were curious as to what we was doing, they seemed alright and let us go after a quick chinwag, surprised that undercover officers carried torches but hey ho.
