Long time, no post, so I thought I'd put SOMETHING up, even if it's nothing spectacular. My next post (Essex County Penitentiary) will more than make up for it so I've included a couple of teaser pics to wet your whistle.
In any case
I could not find very much history, but here's what I have.
The Midwest Oil Refinery received mention in the July 28 1920 Laramie Republican as being "almost ready for use". The refinery only remained in operation for 12 years, closing in April 1932. The metal parts were taken as scrap during WW2, and the kilns (which were used for making coke, a pure form of carbon) quickly fell into a ruinous state. The old company offices have seen a variety of uses over the years, most recently as storage for the town. These remain the only intact portion of the plant, and are quickly falling into a state of disrepair.
The rest of the refinery was once located across the street. However it was demolished years ago and has been condemned by the board of health. I've been told not to venture over there without full hazmat gear on
