The Corfe to Swanage Railway line follows the route of the former London and South Western Railway line from Wareham to Swanage, a line that opened in 1885 and was finally closed by British Rail in 1972. From the time of closure, a strong campaign to reopen the railway as a steam locomotive operated heritage railway developed, and the Swanage Railway began operating a steam service at the Swanage end of the line in 1982. As the line was progressively extended northwards towards Corfe Castle, concerns grew that terminating the line there would make existing parking problems in the picturesque village worse. It was therefore decided to extend the line the further half a mile to Norden, and build a Park and Ride site there (1995).

I came here on a recent visit to Dorset with my Dad, it's an intriguing place with a fair bit to see. Lots of old trains basically, I think the story goes that this is where they were brought to be worked on but most of them have been left to rot. There are however a few interesting carriages with some stuff inside, my favourite one was the the workshop full of old rusty tools. The little red one was also pretty cool and still in excellent nick compared to the others. I was looking forward to seeing this place for myself and it didn't disappoint, there's something quite endearing about these rusty old carriages. Hope you enjoy looking, I got a bit camera happy so there's quite a few pics

As stated in the 'Lemming Bar' thread Railway Preservation Society's up & down the country have far more 'awaiting restoration' that can possibly be done before it rots. The same can be said of Aircraft & Vehicles as well!

Enjoy them while you can. Perhaps a National Priority should be applied, instead of everyone have a nice '1-2-3' or whatever.

Great photos chap. I don't like to think of them as dead trains, more like OAPs. One or two may get restored one day. :)

I'd love to see more places like this, that Leeming Bar place looks great as well
