I made it my aim to return to the Stoke works to record the site before demolition is complete by the next few weeks. The fire in Aldermore house, the main 80's office block has meant demo has moved to that part of the site.
This time I made it into the remaining section of the shop floor, with it's typical angled glass roof. It was however, completley empty, but at least there are some photos of it before it goes.
And finally the Humber pub, across the road from the works, which bears the name of the former firm. When asked how the pub was doing since the works was reduced in size, and eventually shut altogether she replied "We survive
because we have a large function room. But that used to be the cream, nowadays it keeps us from going under"
Apprentices from the Stoke works were said to duck in the Humber after doing their Friday afternoon run around the sprots field!
