Saw this place on here from Zero81 and just had to go and see that staircase.

Visited with Host and Dubchester....

Bumped into Edd and his misses on our way out,all of us from Manchester meeting in Wales....its a small world.

Pool Park was once the home of the Salusbury family, one of whom was William Salusbury of Bachymbyd and passed to Sir Walter Bagot thro marriage. It was rebuilt in the Elizabethan style by the Bagot family in 1828 and is situated off the Clawddnewydd Rd out of Ruthin. The Bagot family was well known in the area and was responsible for the funding of alms houses in the area among other projects.

Pool Park was rebuilt in 1826-1829 for the second Lord Bagot. It was acquired by the North Wales Counties Mental Hospital and opened in 1937 to accommodate 87 patients for relief of overcrowding at the Denbigh hospital. It has a main elevation of 2-storeys, plus attic, and is rendered with a slate roof. It has a nine bay front with projecting gabled end bays. The centre three bays are also gabled with a projecting central entrance bay.

The Baggot's built the present mansion and were followed there by the Tate's of Tate and Lyle. In 1930 all the farms etc on the estate were sold off and the mansion was eventually bought by Denbighshire Health Authority and was a Phyciatric hospital until 1988 when it was sold to a builder. The place hasn't been touched since ....
