On a recent weekend away (DSLR sadly left at home) we found we had time to check out a few places. Handy camera phone in pocket, we were headed over to Nocton to check out the hospital and spotted a place to check out next time we are over that way. It's not on the forum yet, so I'm keeping it under wraps for now…
Also, this was on the way - RAF Coleby Grange. Stood on farmland behind a truck stop and car wash it was easily accessible and no-one was itching to stop us so we parked up in the car park and wandered over. It was a well worn path so think a lot of people must head over, maybe walking dogs or something.
Years open and squadrons based here are listed on this site: Coleby Grange Airfield History - BCAR.org.uk
The place is, apparently, haunted (if you believe in that shit). Details here of ghost airmen, bangs, poltergeist activity and the sound of planes droning: BBC - Lincolnshire Unexplained - Cole Grange W.W.II Control Tower Investigation
The airfield information exchange website is also very interesting. There were a few other small brick ruins near by and apparently the site itself is more extensive and stretches to a farm a mile or so away. So, there is more to see that just the control tower - another visit in the future maybe.
The view from the upper windows was pretty neat that day - ploughing in progress
Enjoying the early spring sunshine and a spot of my favourite hobby
Soaking up the view
Welcome to Hell House
The inside staircase
The outside staircase
Inside staircase
Nice bit of symmetry
The exterior and fencing
Some of the brickwork not in great shape
Staircase to the roof, also not in great shape
Exterior
Nice sunshine and a bit of graffiti
Little memorial poppy
