i know this one has been done before but thought better to dig a little deeper, visted with stiemer.work began early 1942,orignally built as a satellite to west rayham.work drew to a close early 1943,the first crews arrived shortly after, the base was used by the australians, new zealand, raf, and the usaf.the base had a refit which was finished early 1946,this was to serve as a heavy bomber base, enter the berlin crisis 1949.usaf stepped in with the 47th bombardment wing in,by 1957 some 10,000 personnel were stationed there,1962 saw large scale rotational bomber deployments halted so the 47th was deactivated.thereafter it kinda became a standby base, the usaf withdrew and the base closed in 1992,the original housing was sold off.still in the hands of the mod,it is now used for training.
