Having tried to find Scotland's largest drag line coal shovel last weekend to no avail, I decided to have another shot at it today. Again with no decent results.
What I did find was the Scottish Coal quarry to which the shovel would have belonged.
After closing down it appears to have been used by Johnson (Chopwell) Ltd. At present Portakabins (in quite good condition) are sitting in the harstanding area, so it may still be used.
Had an enjoyable hour or so climbing on bits and bobs. I didn't venture over to the actual coal offices, but they are still there
I have no idea as to why half the building was missing
: Although the sounds of Z-Purlins resonating in the wind was quite eeery.
