The History.
St.Andrew's Asylum Norfolk also known as the norfolk lunatic Asylum Annexe.
St Andrew's has gone under several names.
Norfolk Country Asylum (1814-1915)
Norfolk War Hospital (1915-1919)
Norfolk Mental Hospital (1919-1923)
St Andrew's Hospital (1923-1998)
The Architects were Francis Stone,John Brown,Robinson Cornish and Gaymer.
It was once a vast complex arrangement of traditional H shaped buildings all linked with a trunk corridor.
Rumour has it St Andrew's was only one of two original Asylums that had a curved corridor.
The Asylum was intended specifically for pauper lunatics and was the second institution of its kind, when completed in early 1814.
40 male patients arrived april 1814 followed by female patients June of that year, roughly 70 patients were present by the end of that year.
Extensions in 1831 and 1840 allowed the number to double, again a Auxiliary Asylum and more extensions completed by 1881 ment St Andrew's could accommodate 700 patients.
When the Asylum closed in april 1998 it was thought to have more than 1,000 patients, whom were all sent to other Asylums around the uk.

The explore!
Myself, daughter and ollie336 were in the city anyway,so i suggested taking a peek at the Asylum as we keep hearing how its nearly all gone.
And as a teenager i lived up the road from the mental place as we called it.
As i drove up it was clear that not much was left, unfortunatly think were just to late.
Anyways had a poke about, the main building is just a corridor with small rooms down the side thats it.
Few pics just to keep u all up to date!
