St Joseph's Hospital - Preston - March 2015

The three previous attempts were fails, but I was not disheartened, I wanted this, and as it turns out, the forth time certainly paid off. We only went for a look, not really knowing if access was possible, and as it was still light a few external shots were taken.
Access was found, but looked pretty 'on-top' during daylight as there were people and cars everywhere. So, after a bite to eat and a brew, we returned 40 minutes later when it was dark.
We slid inside like ninjas.
What an amazing place, a lot bigger than I had expected, room after room after room and it still retains so many fantastic features. It has a lovely atmosphere in the dark and we spent a good few hours in there. Thanks to @Canadrummergetsome for the heads up

A little bit of history;
St Joseph's Hospital was erected on Mount Street, Preston in 1877 by Mrs Maria Holland for the benefit of the sick poor. It was opened in 1879 and run by the Sisters of Charity of our Lady Mother of Mercy, who also ran St Joseph's Orphanage in Theatre street. In 1884, it opened up two rooms as accommodation for private patients, and during the First World War it provided care for wounded soldiers (often Belgians). The Hospital was later recognised as a training centre for nurses, and accepted its first trainees in 1958. The Hospital closed in the late 1980s.
