Like Vesta Oil across the bypass, St. Margaret's Convent in Rock Ferry is being flattened. Only this time it's partial. It is/was Grade II listed, but I don't know how this will effect the listing. The planning application is no longer on the council's website, but here is the extract

Here's English Heritage's listing:

SJ3386 MERSEY LANE SOUTH, Rock Ferry 789-1/12/244 (West side) 28/03/74 St Margarets (Formerly Listed as: MERSEY LANE SOUTH (West side) St Margaret's Guest House)

House, now convent and possibly built as 2 dwellings. c1840. Ashlar faced, rusticated to ground floor with Welsh slate roof. Plain neo-classical style, 2 storeys, 6-bay elevation to north with 2 doorways, one in plain architrave with blind fielded stone panel over, and balustraded panel below upper window, the other possibly inserted, with late C20 timber pedimented porch. Windows throughout renewed in original openings, those to the first floor recessed between shallow pilasters and with small sunken panels over. Principal elevation faces west, with pedimented centre and bay windows in outer gables.
Here's the damage... :(

With this gone, Vesta gone and the Hydraulic Tower sealed it's sad times for Wirral derps :(
