Over the course of a couple of visits to the main semi-derelict part of the former Stanton Foundry it became obvious there was probably a lot more bits to see hidden away from the main site. So with a bit of down time during lockdown to scour Google Earth and with some help from a couple of non-member locals, we managed to rustle up enough excess bits for a report. Not including the ruined training, exhibition and medical centres, there’s still a bit to see – not all of it amazing but I don’t think I’ve seen any of the following bits on the forums before…
Visited with @Gsxrwayne and @raisinwing

Hand mould workshop

Not to be confused with the mould boring workshop over on the main site, this similarly long shed appears to be where the wooden casting moulds were either manufactured or stored.

Boiler house

The nasty modern prefab boiler house actually has quite a nice aged interior and contains 3 Ruston Thermax boilers.

Pump house

The Victorian era pump house sent water from the sites’ own reservoir to various parts of the foundry, it has been well pikey’d but there’s still plenty of pipe-porn to see.

Air raid shelters

The main series of air raid shelters at Stanton are composed of 16 interconnected rooms. There are a couple more stand-alone shelters nearby but these are unfortunately flooded. The main shelter isn’t in bad condition, despite a bit of smoke damage in places.

Offices / catering / conference rooms

The kitchens, canteen and catering departments appear to have been out of use for maybe 10+ years, the offices and conference spaces are very fresh and the older offices in the upper floors are rather soggy and appear to have been disused for a long while – 90’s perhaps?

Thanks for looking - no doubt there are even more bits still to see in the area, so hopefully they’ll be a part 2 someday!

Nice & comprehensive. Great shots of those pipes & boilers. What a mixed bag this is. Some bits really trashed others look so clean still. Great view of the lake too. Liked this :thumb

Nicely done bud, some cracking shots there. Thoroughly enjoyed our mooch about the place, like you say plenty more to come from here in theory!
