We thought we'd do a small report on this as while it is just a single derelict shunter we found it really photogenic and ended up with more photos than expected!
GEC stphenson locomotives are a type of heavy industrial shunter built in the 1970s by GEC traction. This is the 3 axle variant weighing in at around 50 ton.
This one is beached and abandoned on the disused Porth-y-waen branch of the tanat valley light railway. The Tanat Valley Light Railway was a 15-mile (24 km) long standard gauge light railway. It ran westwards from Llanyblodwel in Shropshire, about 5 miles or 8 km south-west of Oswestry. It crossed the Wales–England border and continued up the Tanat valley, terminating at Llangynog in Powys. It opened in 1904, providing access to a fairly remote area, and transport facilities for slate production and agriculture.
It's very easy to access this by just wandering down the disused line.
