I think the history has been done to death, but... I shall add my two cents. Literally, 2 of them...
Building began in 1959 and t'was a prototype for other power stations across the UK.
Following privitisation in 1990 the plant closed in 1994.
Aaaand, it's big. Velly, velly, velly BIG. Great fun for pratting about with echoes, just don't get the giggles in the middle of one. You seriously risk rupturing your eardrums!
My camera just refused to do what I asked here and I wound up with some really odd shots. Wide-angle squiffiness would have been super. Anyhoo... pics!
