This is the old Tonopah WW2 Army Air Field - not to be confused with the Tonopah Test Range that is still in active use. The site was in active military use between 1942 and 1945 for the training of both fighters and bombers.
Towards the end of the war a field test unit of a special weapons contractor was based there were they tested guidance systems on glide bombs. They operated out one the wooden hangers. The remnants of the Army Air Field include three hangers, ordinance storage bunkers, a few decaying buildings, and a myriad of foundations of the former barracks, offices, and recreational facilities.
