Chesterfield Wagon Works

​

As prev reports there is little history of the Wagon Repair Ltd more commonly know as Chatsworth Wagon Works.
They were part of a larger company established by Andrew Nelson in 1880. Part of the Glasgow Rolling Stock company Hurst, Nelson and Co, outside of the company’s main works in Motherwell, Scotland there was an administrative office in London and another wagon works in Swansea, Wales.

After around 100 yrs the works closed in the early 80s.
The site has since become a sort of holiday camp for explorers, graffiti artists & generally the local riff raff.

Can't say it's prime building land so not sure what they would do there.

Worth a look if u are in the area its certainly a nice easy wander & good fun scaring the local youths

Wagon Works, Whittington. Extensive complex of single storey corrugated iron sheds of around 1910 with later brick office buildings now (2000) completely derelict and for sale. Formerly rail connected from the Midland Railway Sheepbridge branch.

thanks, it is strange given the size of the place (must of been a big employer at the time) how little info is about for it.
I did find one article re a guy who had died of asbestos exposure after working there & the family were trying to see if there was any links to the wagon works but that was about it.
